NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan 22, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Healthways, Inc. (NASDAQ: HWAY) announced today that it has achieved the distinction of being selected for inclusion on FORTUNE's 2008 list of "100 Best Companies to Work For." The Company ranked No. 80 on the 11th annual list and is the only firm in Middle Tennessee selected this year.

"We've been repeatedly recognized by FORTUNE as one of the nation's fastest growing companies," said Healthways President and CEO Ben R. Leedle Jr., "but our inclusion on this list is very special. It is a measure of our success in creating and maintaining a culture that enables our more than 4,000 colleagues to do their best work while pursuing our Company mission of creating a healthier world, one person at a time.

"Every company aspires to make a difference," Leedle continued. "At Healthways we focus every day on making a difference for more than 26 million individuals around the world by helping them be as healthy as they can be. We are able to impact the lives of the people we touch by attracting and retaining the best and brightest talent from around the world and then creating an environment where they can thrive. Healthways colleagues join our company because of our purpose and are collectively committed to what we believe is our obligation to succeed. Our colleagues' passion to achieve this higher purpose makes Healthways a great place to work."

Selection of FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" is based on the results of the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. The survey is conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research and consulting firm. Two-thirds of each company's score is based on the results of the survey which is sent to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees and asks questions about management credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie. The remaining one-third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs, hiring practices, internal communications, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts.

"We've worked hard to get where we are as an organization and as a colleague community," said Chris Cigarran, Healthways' senior vice president of Human Resources. "While we have more to accomplish, it's great to see that our colleagues recognize that Healthways is a very special company."
